This weekend is the 300km or the 400km AUDAX brevets. If you plan on doing Paris-Brest-Paris this should be a must….time is running out. The 300km and the 400km ride together into Malaysia and then when we arrive back into Singapore you can either do the 300km and go direct to Longhouse or continue on and hammer out the 400km by finishing the route in Singapore. So far we have four people signed up for the 400km and one signed up for the 300km. I am doing the 400km because I like to go to Jerry’s BBQ on Jalan Keyu for a steak after 360km before finishing up at Longhouse. J
The AUDAX 300km and 400km rides are amazing, challenging and fun. What better way to spend your Saturday than having lunch in Kluang, boiling for 90km along the road to Kota Tinggi, eating lots of roti prata, then hitting the Kulai bumps at KM 270 to wake your legs (and yourself) up again….reaching Singapore and making the decision to press on or hit Longhouse.
You may look like this at some points of the ride, however the feeling that you have when you finish these long rides greatly surpasses any pain and suffering you do along the way. Pictured here is AUDAX legend Dave ‘Lundy’ Lundberg who has completed the entire AUDAX series in 2009.
Ideally we will have some of the other Super Randonneurs from 2009 out on this weekend’s ride: Gareth Cooper, Peter Callan, Barry McDonnell, Denise Silk, Jeff Kennedy, Brian Johnsen, Dave Lundberg, Alex Lee. JFT is in USA.
Party Time?
Ok this will not be a party for sure but it will be fun. We also have enlisted our man in Malaysia, Mr. Hafiz, to follow us around and make sure we all finish safe and sound. He technically does not support us but if for whatever reason we break a bike, a spirit or a soul, he will be there as our saviour. He also has this huge cooler full of 100Plus and other drinks which we can drink. There will be a cost for this and I am not sure how much it is, but I am sure it is worth it. I will revert with the cost when he comes back to me. Hafiz also follows the slowest rider(s) and escorts us the full route in Malaysia. Singapore is not included as once we are back home we should be ok or at least be able to get taxis, etc. Also present will be the team Photographer, Ms. Lucinda Hodges…she also has experience working in an ambulance if you get busted up. But ideally she will only need to take photos. J

Finished?
If all works as planned, you should be completed the 300km by around 6-7pm and the 400km at around midnight at Longhouse. Ideally you can arrive at Longhouse when there is a place still open to serve a beverage of your choice. (beer tends to be popular after 400km). Note also how everybody is smiling on this 400km completion photo from October 2009?
If you have any questions regarding the ride, please small ‘reply’ me and I would be happy to help out if I can. The main Audax website has all the info www.audaxsingapore.com
Registration is 5am at Longhouse, we leave at 0530 sharp. Before departure, we will give you a ride briefing (in a French accent in lieu of JF). You need passports, Ringgit, etc to get over the border and back. We typically all stay together going over the border.
Send in your registration forms! jpaine@pacific.net.sg
Cheers,
